Incorporating the patient’s voice in determining tinnitus treatment measurements

When researchers assess the effect of treatments on patients, they measure ‘outcomes’. Different studies can measure different outcomes making it very difficult to compare or combine results. A set of outcomes used in all clinical trials and other research is called a ‘core outcome set’.

Adele Horobin from the University of Nottingham worked to give tinnitus patients a voice in deciding what the ‘core outcome set’ should be for tinnitus research. This will ensure that future research and treatments are measured in a meaningful way to people experiencing tinnitus.
