Tinnitus
Identifying and targeting possible tinnitus genes
April 2017 update
Dr Martine Hamann at the University of Leicester has been working to identify a possible tinnitus gene using microRNAs (small biological molecules present in all human or animal cells). The majority of Dr Hamann’s experiments and screening work has been carried out but due to the cutting edge nature of this work further analysis is still to be completed with new statistical methods only recently published. A full set of results should hopefully be available this summer.
If a gene can be identified, this research could pave the way for pharmaceutical treatments and a better understanding of tinnitus.
