We have launched further resources for children with tinnitus, building on our award winning series of information leaflets for young people.
Written by Nic Wray, Communications Manager at the British Tinnitus Association and illustrated by Kate Smith, the resources were developed from an original idea by Caroline Munro and supported by members of the British Society of Audiology’s Paediatric Audiology Interest Group and comprise an activity book for each of three age ranges – Key Stage 1, Key Stage 2 and Key Stages 3 and 4.
It is a popular misconception that children don’t get tinnitus. It is in fact surprisingly common – a 2012 study showed that 37% of children aged 6-12 years with normal hearing experience tinnitus, increasing to 59% in those with hearing loss.¹ Although many children with tinnitus manage it easily, some find it very distressing and it can impact on all aspects of their lives.
With attractive and engaging illustrations, each activity book will help a child with tinnitus explore their feelings and reactions to their tinnitus, and enable them to develop a personalised strategy for managing the condition, enabling them to cope better in home, school and social situations.
