Sebamed Anti-Hairloss Shampoo Review 2022

Sebamed Anti-Hairloss Shampoo Review

Sebamed is a slightly less common brand that you may have heard of. Among their products, Sebamed has a shampoo that supposedly helps with hair loss and hair thinning. But, with the multitude of other shampoos that help with this, it may be questionable as to if this one has anything to boast about.

But, first, Sebamed has some interesting things about it, and their shampoo might have a few unique details as well. Both are worth examining more closely to see if the Sebamed shampoo might be what you need.

About Sebamed

The Sebamed company is all about medical facts, especially the ones regarding your pH levels. To keep your skin healthy, you have to keep a proper pH, which is a slightly acidic layer on the surface. This acidic layer both locks in hydration and wards off bacteria that can cause disease.

Though this company supposedly shares their story – they have an ‘our story’ tab on their website – this is not very helpful. Almost the entire page talks about the pH of our skin and why it is important. It also says, repeatedly, that the Sebamed products are ones that all help you attain the proper pH for your skin.

It even briefly mentions the history of soap and the fact that common soaps tend to be alkaline. However, Sebamed does mention that Dr. Heinz Maurer made the first acidic soap in 1967. So, it is safe to suppose that the Sebamed company somehow stems from that.

Sebamed also shares the fact that they have products sold in over 85 countries. They do not test their soaps or other products on animals, but they do test them on sensitive skin. As you might guess, Sebamed sells mostly soaps, having products for all different ages from babies to teens with acne and their Age Defense soap for older people.

Besides soaps, Sebamed also sells shampoos, conditioners, serums, and a few other products that fit into the same general area. Sebamed also has creams and sunscreen, all of which have the proper pH to help your skin.

Sebamed has a lot on their website, including a blog, a skin guide, information on events, and a few other things. Sebamed is also one of the few companies to put up an email, phone number, and a customer service section that answers common questions.

Their Scalp Activating Shampoo

The Sebamed Scalp Activating Shampoo is specifically made for thinning hair. This sets the activating shampoo apart from their children’s shampoo, their everyday one, their extreme dry scalp option, and their sensitive scalp one. Like the other Sebamed products, it has the proper pH for your scalp.

Besides that, this shampoo also has other things like caffeine to boost your circulation to your scalp. It also has a type of zinc and menthol, the latter of which can be helpful with soothing and increased blood flow.

However, the best of the natural ingredients here is the Ginkgo Biloba Leaf Extract. The extract of the ginkgo tree is very nourishing for your hair follicles, providing nutrients that are easy to absorb. This plant extract has even had a few studies done on it, which report some pretty good effects.

This Sebamed shampoo also has an NHE complex, which is a derivative of vitamin B3. The complex supposedly pairs quite nicely with the caffeine, giving you the best of both. The caffeine’s help getting the most of the nutrients that the ginkgo supplies make the main ingredients a solid combination.

On the other side, this Sebamed shampoo is free of parabens and other potentially harmful preservatives. They don’t particularly mention any other things that they might make their product without.

It is only available in one size, unlike some of Sebamed’s other shampoos, which have two possible sizes. Like most of the Sebamed products, this shampoo comes in a plain white bottle that honestly looks a bit plain.

The Advantages

Though Sebamed talks almost exclusively about your skin, your scalp’s pH s just as important for your hair growth. In fact, certain things like dandruff, oiliness, and certain scalp conditions can benefit your scalp health hugely.

What’s more, shampoo that has the right pH is much gentler on your scalp, making it perfect for sensitive scalps. It is the shampoos that have the wrong pH for you that are more likely to lead to irritation. Irritation and an off pH are both things to avoid if you are trying to grow your hair.

Though the ingredients, on the whole, are slightly lacking (more on that later), the main ones are very complimentary of each other. The fact that they boost one another so that you get the most of each is a very good feature. The ginkgo biloba, in particular, is a very nice touch, being an ingredient that is great for hair yet not overdone in hair products.

Next, Sebamed makes it easy to buy their products. You can buy their scalp activator shampoo online direct from them, from a list of other online sellers, or with their store locator. Sebamed also has a rewards program, bundles, and a lot of other things to help you save on their products.

Also appreciated is how easy Sebamed is to get in touch with, with a few different options for that too.

The Disadvantages

I was a bit disappointed that Sebamed doesn’t say much about themselves. They apparently have no mission or goals or anything that you can get behind other than their pH balancing focus.

Once again, though some of the Sebamed ingredients are good, there is quite a bit lacking, in my opinion. For starters, Sebamed does not even mention allergens. Also, though their shampoo is free of parabens, that is the only thing they apparently take care to make it is free of.

Their Scalp Activating Shampoo has a lot of things that are hard to pronounce. A few ingredients, like the Parfum fragrance and the glycerin, are less than desirable as well. So, clearly, Sebamed could use a little improvement here.

Also, as it originates in Germany, the Sebamed shampoo sometimes gets shipped from there. This means you might get a bottle that has the writing – including potential side effects – in German instead of English.

Speaking of side effects, though Sebamed does not mention anything about these, some people find that it makes their skin red and inflamed when they use it. Though this normally only lasts an hour and does not come with itching, it is still something you should know.

This Sebamed shampoo is also slightly more expensive than average, which most hair loss shampoos are. However, that is a small disadvantage considering the fact that there are various ways to save when buying it.

Final Thoughts

All in all, this Sebamed shampoo has a bit going for it. While the ingredients could use a little work, it is still a sold product that you should consider if you have a sensitive scalp. However, due to Sebamed Scalp Activating Shampoo having a possible side effect, it is clearly not for everyone.

This Sebamed shampoo is still worth trying; just be sure to test it out first for a reaction. Other hair loss shampoos are better, and some are worse than this one. But, if you want to try their shampoo, that is up to you and if you feel that it is worth it.
